Club events are organised by members on a cost-sharing basis in their own or in chartered boats. Suggestions for new activities are always welcome.

Navigating the Beaulieau River
Round the Island Race
More recently the club has sailed the RTI Race in 2023 & 2024. More information here.
We entered this classic event for the first time for 20 years in 2021 having won Class H by 32 minutes in 2001. If members wish to organise a boat its an experience not to be missed but is one of the more expensive weekend's sailing in the year. The simplest option is a charter from Sunsail or one of the other sailing schools as they are set up for that sort of thing.

Cowes to Newlyn 2023
Dawn after our first overnight passage from Hurst
Nick Lightbody & Michael Cross borrowed First Love aiming to reach the Isles of Scilly in a single leg.
It was October 2023 and plan A was curtailed when fog fell rounding the Lizard at sunset and the First Love's AIS had only a short range, so discretion determined putting in at Newlyn. A great harbour if you are passing that way. There are about 15 leisure yacht berths before all the working boats berths.
The wind was light all the way to Newlyn but a brisk westerly returned them rapidly east to Weymouth and then on the Cowes.
The heads ceased to function after several days and Michael took delight in disassembly and isolating the fault. The lifeboat Coxwain in Newlyn gave us freshly caught mackerel from which Michael created a delicious curry.
The phosphorescence illuminated dolphins at 0200 15nm south of Start Point were a memorable sight.
All three yachts meet in Fowey followed by dinner at the Royal Cornwall YC in Falmouth before parting company.
Anodyne & Master Chantler explored the Cornish coast between Plymouth and the Helford river and had an excellent time with good company & good food.
Skylark took in Scilly spending a night in Hughtown & New Grimsby before returning to Plymouth

The Industry Sailing Challenge
LSYC entered the Industry Sailing Challenge and the Turner & Newall Industry Sailing Masters many times between 1988 and 1998 with a fair degree of success.
Here is the 1994 entry skippered by Nick Lightbody with Finbarr Leahy on the front of the rail and Robin Shepherd further back.
